I have to agree with Travel5 that visiting to co. in question is a good
idea. However, after having done exactly that whenever the co.'s location is convenient, I do have further caveats.

1. Never announce your intended visit so they can't put on a dog and pony
show for you.

2. Be very observant of your surroundings. Glance into wastebaskets,
see if the blackboard or bulletin board is being used. See who is there
besides co. people. Customers? Investors? etc.

3. Usually, a receptionist has to call someone to inform of the desired
tour. While she/he is involved, glance through the sign-in book and
see if there is more than the FedEx guy and people applying for jobs

4. If you have a list of items that don't seem quite right to you,
make sure to ask questions about them and study the reaction and the
answers.

5. Most importantly, do the employees seem to be genuinely on task
or is the receptionist filing her fingernails and a couple of guys
loitering at the coffee pot.

6. I am sure I have other things that slip my mind right now, but
i am sure others have done "visits" and can add to these.
