Software can't recover from errors like humans can.

Setting the date to January 1, 1970 kills any Apple device permanantly.

Date bug will prevent 64-bit iOS devices from booting up, rendering them inoperable even through fail-safe restore methods using iTunes

Apple used this date as zero, and none of the processes can operate with a zero or negative date, and they forgot to include a data-input test to eliminate this problem.

They'll download a fix for this, but you can see the potential software has for failure.
