I use chart scanning primarily to find extremely oversold stocks and play bottom bounces. I don't have much to say about the legitimacy but I have profited more often than not. Who knows, charting could just cause self-fulfilling prophecy but I've seen enough people make a living day trading using solely technical analysis. Check out the SPY board sometime, those guys trade SPY options solely based on intraday technical charting.
