Kiwi, "Lowering LDL below 100 will reduce CV events", to MACE rate of 5.2%-5.9% based on Amarin's own estimate of R-IT patients. A reduction of LDL from 170 to 100 might bring down MACE by a lot but it's accounted for in R-IT trial design.

Your docs' opinions might be sound if all V did is to lower LDL further (e.g. PCSK9). A reduction of LDL from 100 to 70 might not bring down MACE by much due to the law of diminishing return, but V also supercharges statins, reduces inflammation, improves epa/aa ratio, NO release and various lipid markers such as APOC3, hsCRP, Lp-LpA2, etc. It's like which way you think is more beneficial to one's health:

1) increase exercise activity by 15 minutes from 1 hour/day to 1 hour 15 min/day while keeping the same lousy diet (I consider R-I patients to be sick due to its at least 5% MACE rate despite optimal statin therapy, and I equate sick with lousy diet in this analogy).

2) maintain exercise activity to 1 hr./day while changing to a Mediterranean Diet.
