Will someone explain how on any given stock when people say the whole float has been traded in the last couple of days. Say the float is 1 billion and yes 1 billion shares of trades have traded, but i mean why couldn't it be just that half of the shares traded multiple times between people?

Are they saying this just to state the total volume when in fact who knows what percentage of the actual shares have traded?
