Agree - there was a lot discussion on this topic back then and some gave spin that Menon did sacrifice to avoid litigation and took the blow for the co.

However the fact cannot ignored that Dr M gave half royalty and half his shares - no person has so big a heart to give 1/2 portion of his/her share unless they have weak case or they are at fault.
