--It never ceases to amaze me at the amount of money a woman will spend if she thinks something is going to make her prettier ( although, I am at loss to see how a raised pip on the bottom of a slab of rubber is going help matters :- ); Or the amount of money a man will spend on a car to attract the "prettier" woman in our class society that judges the quality of the man based on the kind of vehicle he can afford to drive.

However, I will concede that when I was younger, I was partial to the woman who wore a "living" bra a la the Howard Hughs/Jane Russell/The Outlaw connection ( which has to be the granddaddy of Madison Avenue hucksterism at its finest ) and pulling up in front of the nightclub in a Vette was a boost to the ego.

But as the era of Sex,Drugs and Rock & Roll left me behind, I learned that the living bra didn't have a brain and the Vette was rather high maintenence just to pull up to the nighclub; And that the economy relies on dumb kids to buy all the junk that keeps the economy alive.

A few years ago, I developed the affinity for driving station wagons to bring home all the bargins I could find in the pawn shops and Salvation Army Thrift Stores, but the girl I was dating would not be caught dead riding in the former or parked in front of the latter. To borrow from Roy Clarck's song: "Thank God and Grayhound, She's Gone"

Annie, you are woman after my heart. While I don't trim the label from my Levi's, I'm not gonna pay someone to wear their T-shirt so I can be a walking billboard.

OTOH, I have not completely dismissed peer pressure. I would not want to be the poor fool walking into Starbux ( never been to one ) with crappy e-machines laptop ( if e-machines made a laptop ). Nor would I like to be the unfortunate who has to ride into the Hell's Angels biker bash with a Yamaha.
And therestill ain't nothing like lighting up a Marburo with Zippo--XYZ's offbrands and a Bic don't have the same cachet.

I may not be a slave to fad or fashion anymore, but pushing 50, I'm not giving up my Viagra Racing Team ball cap. Advertising does have it's place; Now so, more than ever
