The flaw in your logic is that there is no 64-bit market. AMD has to create one by making the software available and having systems to sell. A big question is how well they can market this, given that many apps don't seem to get a performance boost from the 64-bit instructions. Other than pure marketing, AMD64 is no better than SSE-2, for example. If the software supports it, and AMD can convince people to buy 64-bits because it's "better than 32-bit, duh", then they will have a market. I am skeptical that they will be able to do this, however.
