I think that is spot on. By making this an independent examination/investigation, NW keeps this above board so he does not get embroiled in allegations by association/investment, plus he likely clears the cobwebs out of the attic so that management can move forward with a clean slate.

I would note, at least from my memory of some past unrelated general news events about public/private figures in London, that libel is taken far more seriously in England than it is here, and if Mr. Malik has a case for it, he may very well have international reach.
