German backpackers killed in WA fire

Two women and two men have died trying to escape in their vehicles from lightning-sparked bushfires near Esperance in Western Australia.

Three of the victims are believed to be German backpackers, with the ABC citing farmers who helped fight the fire.

While police are yet to confirm the identities of those killed, the other victim is a local farmer who drove around warning his neighbours to escape before trying to drive away himself.
