I think his problem in talking to people who disagreed with him was that for all of his certainties, he wasn't particularly adept at arguing his point. And my guess is this was frustrating.

If your starting point is a sense of technical inevitability, it can be hard to have a conversation with people who think the world has other variables in it that matter.

Take him away from Wave and his premise and there was a different and more accommodating man to be found. Or, if you accepted his parameters around Wave, he was universally good company.

If Wave ever does come good, it would have been really nice for him to experience it.
