All diabetics are ordered to have flu shots (although I don't follow orders), so if there are mostly diabetics in both arms of Reduce It, virtually all will have recent flu shots on board. I am a flu shot and statin resistor for reasons outlined by many of you here. At 65, have not (knock on wood) had flu in over 30 years (even though I am Type 1 diabetic (onset at 41)and breast cancer survivor from 5 years ago). Even when I was a public high school math teacher in my 20s and 30s, never caught flu.

Nowadays, when the endocrinology nurse takes a history, I conveniently "remember" a recent flu shot date they can add to note. If I don't do, they will bring in a shot right away and I would have to raise my voice.

Interestingly, the only flu shot I've ever had was in 2006 when my husband had leukemia and had a bone marrow transplant--so I took it from M.D. Anderson who vaccinated spouses, etc. I just felt it was the right thing to do from a support and respect point of view--the right gesture toward all of the low-immunity people there.
