Despite a 6 month prognosis, she experienced a series of unfortunate events and passed away last week... only 3 weeks after being diagnosed.

Sunrise is a second line trial and she did not qualify for that.

Had PPHM not had a CSM employee switch dosing and compromise the phase 2 trial, very likely she could have been succesfully treated. She walked in for diagnosis and other than being tired, you would not know she was sick.

The biopsy procedure gave her a bacterial infection which caused her excessive coughing, which in turn stirred the now exposed cancer throughout her lungs,all the while they refused to treat her with chemo because they wanted to wait until the pneumonia was cured.

In all likelihood, bavituximab would have helped the bacterial infection while also keeping the cancer from spreading.

Based on xrays, we discovered she had the same size cancer "cloud" on a chest xray 3 years ago which was easily missed because xrays are not the best way to diagnose lung cancer. So, her cancer was slow growing until they biopsied and introduced the bacterial infection. Then in 2 1/2 weeks, the cancer not only doubled in size but also spread to the other lung...

<sigh>

She was only 52 years young!
