A couple of possible reasons for today's price jump

1)Today was The 1st Sapphire International Conference in China. A GTATQ spokesman was guest speaker at the conference in which 85,000 were in attendance. I can't confirm that I've read the article personally but YAHOO'S GTATQ message board contains a post in which it states that GTATQ and VOLPE are named as key sapphire suppliers 2015-2019.

2)Everybody remember APPLE is going to introduce the i phone 6s and the i phone 6s plus on September 9, 2015, that's next week. Hmmm!!! could the s stand for sapphire screen. It's my speculation that the sapphire screen will be offered as an upgrade in limited quantities to test the market. Introducing this upgrade in limited quantities allows APPLE to offer the upgrade without having to have full production capacity up and running. And this will leave the option of ramping up operations over an extended time frame to meet the demand.
