Ur not able to lock ur shares down in a margin account. Period. Brokers are free to do as they will with them.

In a cash account, you can prevent Brokers from lending them out by placing a gtc sell order as has been suggested.



Almost agree with you. For Fidelity, at least, they told me that as long as I have no margin balance (i.e. all stock paid for with cash) they can not loan out your shares for shorting purposes. No matter what type of account, cash or margin (which is what I have).
