I've heard the same thing. In fact, I've tried to do that on line, GTC sell limit $180.00, a message says I'm too far from the current price. I do have one for a fraction (1/8) of my core for $10.00 but tried to change that to $180 just now, and it wouldn't let me do it. Guess I'll have to give Schwab a call and see what they say.

I have heard different things over the years about locking your shares away from the shorts by putting a GTC order in at a high price. Some brokers don't like this because they want to lend for the shorts, but you can ORDER them to do what you say. Do not listen to the front line solider. Tell his boss the way it is, or you are leaving. These brokers are nothing but money lenders.
