Actually big dog I worked at a mine for 2 years in Texas. A strip mine (open pit) like this one here except we mined coal. That's a pit your looking at. Our mine had several pits over the course of 80 square miles. Activity isn't always going in every pit. Some are left vacant for periods of time while others are being occupied. Keep pushing pencils my guy, you'll probably never know what wearing a hard hat is like.
