There is nothing arbitrary about it. Sells are transactions executed at the bid and buys are executed at the ask. It's the exact opposite of arbitrary in fact. The numbers are objective and quantifiable. Now how you choose to interpret the data is subjective, but that doesn't make it arbitrary.
