Tony Kaye bails on Yes to form something called Badger (bad move). Yes brings in Rick Wakeman (good move). 1971

Elvis: What Happened? written by former (fired) bodyguards is published. The tome chronicles Elvis` descent into drugs. Though the authors claim they wrote the book not for money, but to save Elvis, it`s too late. Presley only lives another two weeks. Over in England, The Pretenders` Chrissie Hynde faces deportation and offers Sid Vicious two quid (about $3) to marry her. Thoughts of the wedding night probably cause Hynde to look elsewhere to solve her residency status. 1977

Singer/guitarist Dhani Harrison is born. Harrison, the son of the late-Beatle guitarist, is known for his work with Fistful Of Mercy and The New No. 2. 1978
1980's MTV debuts. It changes just about everything in music and video. "I want my MTV" is heard throughout the land even though the network launches with only 120 videos (approximately 8 hours worth of material). J.J. Jackson, Nina Blackwood, Mark Goodman, Martha Quinn and Alan Hunter are the original VJs. The Buggles` "Video Killed The Radio Star" is the first video. 1981

The Grateful Dead issue one of their more commercially successful albums (thanks to the single "Touch Of Grey"), "In The Dark." 1987

Bob Seger?s "Shakedown" is #1. Glenn Frey was originally lined up to record the song for the Beverly Hill Cop II soundtrack but he came down with laryngitis. Seger steps in, rewrites some of the lyrics to the Harold Faltermeyer-Keith Forsey song and the rest is, as they say, history. 1987

MTV Europe rolls out. The first video is Dire Straits' "Money For Nothing." 1987

2000's It's announced that former Soil singer Ryan McCombs has joined Drowning Pool, replacing Jason "Gong" Jones, who quit the band in June. 2005

Stone Sour, with Slipknot's Corey Taylor and Jim Root, release their second album, "Come What(ever) May." "It's good, heavy Rock that's going to kick you in the face," says Taylor. He goes on to claim that the set is superior to its predecessor. "The songs are better, the performance is better, the production is better," he says. "It shows what a second album should be." 2006

Someone's knocking at the door. Paul McCartney files for divorce from his second wife, Heather Mills. He claims her behavior is "unreasonable and argumentative." (Hey Paul, what spouse isn't?) However, the couple says they plan an amicable divorce. Less than a week later, McCartney changes all the locks on their house. 2006

AC/DC's back catalog is available for purchase digitally through Verizon Wireless who secure an exclusive deal to sell the band's material. The albums are sold only in their entirety, except for the '80 hit "You Shook Me All Night Long," which is available as a single track. 2007

Lollapalooza gets underway in Chicago. More than 100 bands hit the stages over three days. Radiohead is the first to sell out their show. ?Their production is just incredible," raves Jane's Addiction's Perry Farrell, the festival?s organizer. The three-day event also features Nine Inch Nails, Rage Against The Machine and The Raconteurs. 2008

An exhibition of Led Zeppelin memorabilia opens at Knebworth House, the historic home in Hertfordshire, England, that hosted the final U.K. gig by the band's original lineup. Proceeds go toward the Action For Brazil?s Children Trust, a charity supported by guitarist Jimmy Page. 2008

"Dead Symphony No. 6," an orchestral piece inspired by the Grateful Dead's music, gets a world premiere performance by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. The work was composed by Lee Johnson. 2008

Film producer Tony Klinger?s book The Twilight of the Gods: My Adventures With The Who is in bookstores. The work focuses on the band during drummer Keith Moon's final months and details Klinger?s experiences while working on the band's ?79 documentary, The Kids Are Alright. 2009
2010's Kings Of Leon cancel the remainder of their summer tour in the wake of an awful show in Dallas three days earlier. That concert was cut short after lead singer Caleb Followill left the stage to vomit. A band representative claimed Followill was "suffering from vocal issues and exhaustion," and the band has opted to scrap the tour rather than play subpar gigs. However, bassist Jared Followill writes on Twitter, "there are internal sicknesses & problems that have needed to be address" and "I know you guys aren't stupid. I can't lie. There are problems in our band bigger than not drinking enough Gatorade." 2011

Bruce Springsteen plays a 33 song set in Helsinki Finland that lasts four hours and six minutes. According to NME.com, it?s Springsteen?s longest concert ever. 2012

Divine Fits - featuring Britt Daniel of Spoon, Dan Boeckner of Wolf Parade - make their first live appearance in Austin, TX. Performing under the name the Hot Skull, the band's 12-song set includes songs from their debut, A Thing Called The Divine Fits, plus a cover of Tom Petty's "You Got Lucky." 2012

J. Geils sues the J. Geils Band. The group?s namesake contends that his bandmates "planned and conspired" to exclude him from an upcoming tour. ?These guys (Peter Wolf, Seth Justman, Danny Klein and Richard ?Magic Dick? Salwitz) performed in Mr. Geils?s band, but that doesn?t give them the right to grab the name,? states Geils? attorney. The group, known for the hits ?Centerfold? and ?Freeze Frame,? released 13 albums between ?67 and ?85. 2012

John Lennon and Paul McCartney top MusicRadar's poll of the 56 greatest songsmiths of all time. Bob Dylan is #2 on the list, while Queen, Neil Young and Kurt Cobain round out the top five, respectively. 2013

A lawsuit filed against Daniel Baldi, the doctor who prescribed drugs to the late Paul Gray, is dismissed. A judge rules that Brenna Gray, the Slipknot bassist's widow, waited too long and the statute of limitations had passed on her chance to file suit. In an earlier proceeding, Baldi?s legal team successfully argued that at the time of Gray?s death no drugs which Baldi had prescribed were found in his system. 2014

Neil Young announces via his website that he is boycotting non-organic cotton and urges his fans to do the same. "Today, I have taken the steps to remove sales of non-organic t-shirts and other products that damage the Earth from my concerts and my web stores," Young writes. 2014
