1940's Guitarist/singer Bob Welch is born in L.A. He's in Fleetwood Mac but leaves in the early-70s (pre-Lindsey Buckingham/Stevie Nicks) for a short-lived solo career producing a pair of hits, the ballad "Sentimental Lady" and the uptempo "Ebony Eyes." 1946
1950's Hugh MacDowell, best known as the cellist for Electric Light Orchestra, is born in London. 1953

Drummer Bill Berry has a birthday. He is with R.E.M. for 17 years, before retiring for health reasons. 1958
1960's Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker play under the Cream moniker for the first time. It?s at the 6th Annual National Jazz & Blues Festival in Windsor. They performed together once before but were billed under their individual names. 1966

The Beatles start laying down tracks for the Paul McCartney composed, "Hey Jude." The song, inspired by John Lennon?s son Julian, is finished the following day. 1968

Elvis Presley performs his first live concert in over eight years (since ?61) at the Showroom of the International Hotel in Las Vegas. It?s the birth of the ?Vegas Elvis? and those rhinestone jumpsuits. 1969
1970's To fill a contractual obligation, the Rolling Stones deliver their record, "C***sucker Blues" to Decca Records. Words can not describe Decca?s reaction. The group soon forms Rolling Stones Records to release their albums. They also drop their manager, Allen B. Klein. 1970

?Who's Next,? The Who?s fifth album is released in the U.S. The set starts as a Rock opera called Lifehouse. In the end though, guitarist Pete Townshend?s songs from the aborted project plus others comprise the album. 1971

A 22 year old security guard is stabbed to death at New York`s Forest Hills Stadium during The Who?s concert. 1971

?Chicago V? goes gold. The album contains the summer favorite, ?Saturday In The Park.? 1972

Ozzy Osbourne?s solo debut, ?Blizzard Of Oz,? featuring the guitar work of the late Randy Rhoads, goes gold in the U.S. The album eventually achieves multi-platinum status with sales of 6 million copies worldwide. 1981

Debbie Harry's first solo album is released in the U.K. She records ?KooKoo? while on a year-long hiatus from Blondie. The cover art - a stark, black-and-white image of Harry?s face sliced with four spikes - was created by Swiss artist H.R. Giger. Though a U.K. hit, the album fails to make the U.S. Top 20. 1981

2000's Saliva singer Josey Scott's debuts his TNT show Wanted. 2005

Andy Richardson, a KoRn fan, dies after being attacked by two unidentified men during the Deftones' set on the Atlanta stop of the Family Values tour. KoRn offers the "sincerest condolences and prayers" to Richardson?s relatives. "KoRn are appalled at the actions of these men and are imploring anyone who witnessed this . . . to please immediately come forward by contacting local authorities," reads the group?s statement. 2006

KoRn's "Untitled" is released. It's actually untitled, as in no title at all. "It's not going to be titled," said singer Jonathan Davis. "We didn't want to label this album. It has no boundaries. It has no limits and why not just let our fans call it whatever they wanna call it?" To celebrate, KoRn plays a free show at New York's South Street Seaport for the first 500 fans who buy the album at J&R Music World that morning. The group also signs autographs after the performance. 2007

Little, Brown and Company wins a bidding war for the rights to Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards' autobiography. The publisher reportedly shells out more than $7 million for the memoir, which Richards pens with author James Fox ? providing he still remembers any of it. 2007

Lynyrd Skynyrd headline a benefit concert in Aspen, CO, to benefit the Doug Flutie Foundation for Autism. Flutie, an ex-NFL QB, has a son who suffers from autism. 2007
