This is true, because the deposits are truly owned by the depositors (customers), however the banks use the money as reserves to loan money out for much more than what they are paying to their customers.....
Those same customers have car loans, house payments and credit cards which all pay higher interest rates....
So it's not a reach for JPM to pay a 1% premium for the deposits only.....
