Disagree, if the cash value in the account drops so that the margined shares no longer meet the margin criteria, a margin call will come to cover the account The margined shares are not owned but loaned, backed by the collateral in the entire account. Other cash/shares back up the margined shares, regardless of an account balance. Those margined shares in any account can be loaned out at any time by a broker. The client has no say so. That's the way I understand it. IMO
