did franklin leave his front door open when he went to sleep at night?

did he store his gold on his front lawn?

did he allow a public right of passage through his dining room?

it is fairly obvious that security and liberty are non-exclusive values. a free society is also one which is secure against trespass, theft, murder, invasion etc.

in cyberspace how much more obvious can it be? not only my property but my identity is subject to theft. personal and national security are preconditions of liberty.

so these broad, eighteenth century strokes add little value.

we want a sort of privacy for unsuspicious folks and we want a sort of protection from extremely nasty people. it isn't either-or. it's both.

can a tpm help supply protection and the required nuance?
