FT: European Union Could Award Pan-European Spectrum Licenses
The Financial Times reported that the European Union (EU) is talking about allowing for spectrum licensing across borders in the EU, opening the market further for competition. Under the plan, national regulators would give up the right to award spectrum licenses to the EU. The plan is expected to be revealed on June 28, 2006, as part of a review of the legal regulations governing telecoms and communications services across the EU. The EU's goal is to do away with discrepancies in the allocation of spectrum throughout the region by creating a uniform licensing framework.
