SOGETEL Communications and mmwave Technologies Deploy Airspan WiMAX Network in Canada
Monday June 5, 6:32 pm ET

BOCA RATON, FL--(MARKET WIRE)--Jun 5, 2006 -- Airspan Networks, Inc. (NasdaqNM:AIRN - News), a leading world-wide provider of WiMAX-based broadband wireless access networks and carrier class Voice over Internet Protocols (VoIP) and Wi-Fi Hotzone systems, announced today that mmwave Technologies, an Airspan System Integrator, and SOGETEL have successfully deployed Airspan's AS.MAX WiMAX products in Central Quebec, Canada.

SOGETEL is an independent telecommunications firm with more than 100 years of experience. It currently operates more than 25,500 telephone access lines for business and residential users in Quebec, covering a territory of 4,300 square kilometers. SOGETEL will deploy Airspan's MicroMAX-SOC base stations and EasyST and ProST customer premise devices in 28 communities over a five month period. The network, which includes approximately $750,000 of Airspan equipment, will enable SOGETEL to offer broadband Internet access primarily to rural residential subscribers where traditional wired broadband technologies are not financially viable.

mmwave Technologies, based in Mississauga, Ontario, recommended Airspan's AS.MAX system to SOGETEL for several important reasons. "At mmwave, we select only best of breed technologies that match our customers' requirements. We recommend the Airspan AS.MAX system because of its strong technical performance and its ability to generate a strong economic business model that allows operators to build and grow the network in a very manageable way," stated Glenn Poulos, President of mmwave Technologies.

"We are very pleased with the performance of the Airspan AS.MAX WiMAX solutions. They will enable us to offer the most advanced telecommunications features and services to our customer base. WiMAX technology provides us with the right mix of bandwidth and economics for our business to grow," stated Yves Duval, Director of Engineering, SOGETEL.

"Airspan is pleased to work with SOGETEL and mmwave on the first commercial deployment of the MicroMAX-SOC base station system," stated Dick Lee, Airspan's General Manager and Vice President North America. "We launched MicroMAX-SOC in March 2006, and we believe it has become the leading low-cost high-performance WiMAX base station in the industry. The product complements our other WiMAX base stations by being optimised for low-density deployment, particularly in rural areas where it is the most cost-effective solution to fill in coverage holes in DSL and cable networks, and for Wi-Fi backhaul, Enterprise solutions and Public Safety applications."

Airspan's AS.MAX platform incorporates:

-- MacroMAX -- An FDD-only fixed WiMAX conventional macro cell

-- HiperMAX (macro cell software upgradeable to mobile WiMAX next-
generation)

-- MicroMAX-SOC (low-cost, high-performance fixed WiMAX micro cell)

-- MicroMAX-SDR (micro cell software-upgradeable to mobile WiMAX)

-- Customer Premise Equipment, including the first WiMAX Forum-certified
indoor, self-installable CPE

-- VoiceMAX -- Call Admission Control and emergency calling for SIP
services over WiMAX
