We need a system like I think happens elsewhere where these tort cases have the filing plaintiffs pay the defendants court costs if later found to be frivilous. That would discourage these. I agree about the damage these filings bring even though they likely would never get class action status and be limitied to 50 plaintiffs. This was a sign to me from day one as to how frivilous these suits with GTE were as there was not proportionally much money to be made in this case by the lawfirms. A lawyer friend told me these types of cases likely won't be on contingency anymore based on the March Supreme Court decision (and how impressive it was unanimous) as there isn't enough money in 50 plaintiffs' claims of loss. Especially in a smaller market cap company like GTE, that points to big pockets behind them that would finance the law firms proceeding. Obviously if someone is willing to pay their outrageous hourly rates any of these could still go forward but not on a class action status IMO.
