Esbriet and Ofev are not without their side effects. I'd imagine discontinuations will continue to be significant for both especially since efficacy is modest and likely patients’ perception is even less benefit.

There are two aspects here. One since the drugs are intended to slow the decline the patients do not perceive a benefit when they notice their use of O2, cough, FVC not being stable they see it as the drug is not working when in theory their decline may be at a slower rate. The second aspect is many times the side effects are bothersome and the patients do not see any improvement in lung function and thus stop because the perception of side effects without benefits. My sources are both hearing various presentations (company-itmn and other) and anecdotal patient reports.
