Really dislike that James R.J. Scheltema guy.
Wants free donuts.

Scheltema's been involved in many stinks, including BBDA to which the CEO mentioned that Scheltema disappeared (or wasn't helpful).

Dunkin Donuts & Truth in Advertising
Posted Sat March 10, 2001, by James S. written to Dunkin Donuts

I'm writing to bring your attention to a problem with the experience at Dunkin Donuts. The restaurant I'm referring to is at Harper's Choice Road, Columbia, MD. This matter has made me quite annoyed.

I rec'd a coupon in a local newspaper delivered to me Wednesday, March 7 which offered $1 off the purchase of a dozen donuts. My two sons and I visited the Dunkin Donuts on Saturday, March 10 to be told that the coupon wasn't effective until Sunday, March 11. With two young children, I couldn't refuse to purchase the donuts. I told the clerk the coupon only indicated an expiration date and that I rec'd it several days ago. He told me that the company called him and said not to accept the coupons until March 11. (The store is on Harpers Farm Road in Columbia, Maryland.) My children asked me why "he" didn't take the coupon and I explained that I consider this a violation of truth in advertising and have told my children that everyone is subject to the law. Unless this is remedied by the company, I am now in the position of not being able to go back to Dunkin Donuts. This is unfortunate because we often ride bikes to the store together before their mother wakes up, weather permitting. Finally, I tried to respond to Dunkin Donuts directly, but they only accept e-mail complaints related to their website.

I am a valuable customer who frequently eats at your establishment. Therefore my complaint should be addressed. On average, I spend $7.50 when I patronize your company. The reason I eat at your restaurant is because my past experiences have been good ones.

Here's what I'd like to see happen: 1. Provide a certificate for a dozen donuts and mail it to me: James R. J. Scheltema, 5042 Durham Road West, Columbia, MD 21044.

2. Modify the website to accept e-mail input for store operations and practices generally. Having to write a letter and mail it costs customers time and money and inhibits feedback. The company benefits by seeing if there is a particular location or practice which generates positive or negative feedback. Further, it is a way in which it can monitor practices of its franchisees.

After this, it's unlikely I would consider dining in your restaurant again unless this situation is addressed. I can't in good conscience recommend you again to people I know. Would I be willing to pay more if you fixed the problem? Maybe.

Thank you for your kind attention to this matter. I hope to hear from you very soon.
