I doubt Roche would care to do any business with JnJ when it may compromise their own future is strip sales based on the patents. In the other hand if you had an ally in someone who you trust to not go after you maybe there is value.

KB is a former Roche, who was a part of the team that launched the first commercially viable glucose testing strip now known as accucheck. He would seemingly still have relationships there. The rumor was that when the genstrip opportunity was brought to KB it was via relationships through Roche.
