I don't know for a fact but I'm guessing "profit margin". You have to keep your product inexpensive if you want to mass market it. To hire hand labor to fill bags at what, $20/hour, would get you how many bags/hour? Guessing not that many. Wait for the bagging machine to be repaired and fill umpteen bags in an hour for the cost of electricity and less people at $20/hour is more likely?

I truthfully don't know and will admit that. But the Industrial Revolution in the U.S. in the 19th century pretty much taught us all that mechanization was way cheaper than doing things by hand. Unfortunately for many in Detroit, now robots are building cars way cheaper than by hand and people have lost many jobs because of it.

This is my guess why Marc isn't opting to go the hand-bagging route. Other thoughts?
