They already had a working display medium for years, as described in all their press releases, where they spoke of 'increased resolution/brightness' etc.

As far as I can tell, this paper describes their efforts so far.
It doesn't sound like a commercial-ready solution:


"A potential future solution is presented, and suggestions to improve the scalable medium are given."

" Alternative host materials, e.g., ceramic crystals, were recommended to improve the observed instability."

The paper describes a potential approach to produce the glass in a scalable manner (ie: grinding up the special bits and pouring them into a solution, instead of growing large crystals to arbitrary size, which is impractical).
