To begin with thank you for all the DD. I dont dig too deep into companies that I am not invested in.

I think that the world wants both. Spiber and others will be able to supply the proteins for construction, but KBLB should have MUCH cheaper fibers for sale for use in textiles and should likely dominate in that market. We can coexist and prosper.

I agree the world wants both. But the world is not screaming for spidersilk plastic. We have plastics that have better properties than any spidersilk film.
Eventually the world will find a use for the films but the films and foams etc are not what people think of when they think spidersilk.

When is the last time someone said "i need foam stronger than steel"?
The world wants a thread that is the strongest fiber on earth.

Spidersilk is the holy grail of fibers. Not films or foams or goo.

Also, BTW, I did forget to mention as one of the things that they accomplished that they also ran a fundraising campaign last November and raised ~500 million yen ($4.2 million USD) which is partially how they arrived at their current working capital of ~2 billion yen.

How was this "fund raising" done?

When someone hands you 4 million bucks they dont do it for free. What did the funders get in return?

With all the millions of dollars given to them what do you think the dilution of the companies assets are?

Well, they need to man their new soon to be complete factory. I believe that is what the recruitment is for. The 63 people that they had already were just manning their main office and first factory. I am sure they have many more employees by now.

Yes, their first factory which they named the "PROTOTYPING STUDIO" was fully constructed in November 2013. It is capable of producing 100kg of spider silk proteins each month at full capacity. They started building a second factory capable of producing ~1.7 metric tons a month of spider silk proteins back in September and it is due for completion in the near future.

So they need 63 people just to produce 100 kilos of silk.

Paying these people just $10 an hour makes 100 kilos have a labor cost of $100,000

Pay them more than a highschool drop out and they are way above a feasible product price.

In the end there is room for quite a few people making spider protein products but there is really only 1 goal that they are all reaching for.
Fiber production

Most have walked away defeated and moved on to the spider protein industry.

IMO Spiber will join the 5-10 others that are making spider goo and failed at fibers.
