So their "starting" has been 2 years and counting. Have they started? IS this a different start?

Yes, their first factory which they named the "PROTOTYPING STUDIO" was fully constructed in November 2013. It is capable of producing 100kg of spider silk proteins each month at full capacity. They started building a second factory capable of producing ~1.7 metric tons a month of spider silk proteins back in September and it is due for completion in the near future.

If it is new what happened with the other one? Only big enough to make 1 dress?

It is still operating and they have stated that they have been using that facility to test and improve their E.coli cultures, purification processes, and spinning processes. They have been in the testing stage with their old facility, but it looks like this new one is going to be the one ramping up to commercialization targeted for 2017.

SO if you really think about this list they received a commendation from one of their supporters.... Not real shocked that a supporter would commend them.

The commendation itself was the “University-launched Ventures Commendation Special Award”, an Award for Academic Startups sponsored by the Japan Science and Technology Agency which is also a sponsor of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) which is one of their supporters.

Recruitment....
You really think they need to hire all these people? What for? They have no product yet.

Well, they need to man their new soon to be complete factory. I believe that is what the recruitment is for. The 63 people that they had already were just manning their main office and first factory. I am sure they have many more employees by now.

Also, BTW, I did forget to mention as one of the things that they accomplished that they also ran a fundraising campaign last November and raised ~500 million yen ($4.2 million USD) which is partially how they arrived at their current working capital of ~2 billion yen.

When it comes to spider silk the world doesnt want goo powder gel foam film or solids.
They want fibers.

I think that the world wants both. Spiber and others will be able to supply the proteins for construction, but KBLB should have MUCH cheaper fibers for sale for use in textiles and should likely dominate in that market. We can coexist and prosper.
