So holding Spiber to the same standard as KBLB this is how I see this.

The last that I thought was meaningful was the announcement that they started construction of their new factory and creation of Xpiber Inc. back at the end of September

So here is a statement made in july 2013

Spiber broke ground on a prototype center and pilot plant in the northwest Japanese city of Tsuruoka earlier this month.

So their "starting" has been 2 years and counting. Have they started? IS this a different start? I dont follow the company so it seems like they started and this is old news rehashed.
If it is new what happened with the other one? Only big enough to make 1 dress?

In the last 6 months, they have received a commendation from one of their supporters, started construction on their new higher capacity factory, done 7 separate panel discussions across Japan, and have held 2 recruitment drives to get new employees.

SO if you really think about this list they received a commendation from one of their supporters.... Not real shocked that a supporter would commend them. I am pretty sure that UND has commended Kim on his efforts. It was brushed off when Malcome Fraser stated that none of this would have happened with out Kim but .... again we should not be impressed by that. It is a supporter.

The thing I see different is that the Academy of Science also commended our work even though they are not supporters.

Panel discussions..... Anyone can talk. Anyone can make claims. Again. Not impressed. Anyone can do a Ted talk if they want to discuss spider silk.
Recruitment....
You really think they need to hire all these people? What for? They have no product yet.

If they need 60 people when they have no production what is the labor going to cost when they actually have something to make?

I understand. Spiber is doing what many others are doing. THey are also talking up their company like everyone does. They may be trying to build a factory and they might actually get it built but in a very short time they will have their fill of 2500 a ounce silk cost and move to films and gels and powders. Amsilk might not like the intrusion but IMO there is not enough call for spider foam yet. They are going to need some massive backing to survive until an actual use for the product is taken mainstream.

When it comes to spider silk the world doesnt want goo powder gel foam film or solids.
They want fibers.

So far that is only feasible with KBLB
