New Delhi’s air quality is even worse than Beijing’s:

Kolkata is just behind Delhi on the worst-air list. My closest friend is married to a Kolkata native and they spend half of the year there and half in western Massachusetts.

They notice the difference the minute they step off of the plane, wear a mask as much as possible, continually cough and blow/spit black mucous.

People who live there are not oblivious to the situation. When asked, perhaps after a few drinks so all the PC BS is bypassed, they say the same thing that most Chinese say: so what, we want what you have.
