There are products that sell themselves and usually the best, most accomplished reps work for those companies. With that being said, there is a level of service and execution that is involved that most surgeons do not appreciate or get to appreciate because it mainly revolves around making sure your staff is competent in executing the device for you or making sure it properly gets in your hands. How many surgeons do you actively see setting up rooms or setting up the robot? None...Having a good rep selling titan will be vital because there will be bumps and mishaps. Going from a well oiled machine like ISRG to Titan will not be as seamless as you make it seem. A lot of these hospitals, unlike Penn, do not have residents or a devoted robotic team in place. Good reps with good contacts will sell Titan much faster and much easier. Programs will be hesitant due to the change, but a good rep will help ease those tensions. Bad reps will bungle things and any bad press will certainly serve as a detriment to Titan's progress. Just my two cents...and hopefully Im not sounding too sensitive because I am a rep. Some surgeons appreciate what we while others think they don't need us. Nature of the business.
