Personally I like ETFs. They cant go to zero.

Next I want to be diversified. I want to own everything. Short of that I want to own the big industry sectors that are likely to grow, biotech, finance, tech, energy, consumer goods, and bonds / fixed income for some balance.

I want to own things just because I want to own them to be diversified. Think of the 9 sectors of the s+p 500

Next I would go to stockcharts.com, look at a three year chart with zig zag and see how it looks. I had no trades over a number of years with IYH (HEALTHCARE) but better luck with IBB and now BIB.
