When a company declares a dividend, it sets a record date when you must be on the company's books as a shareholder to receive the dividend. Companies also use this date to determine who is sent proxy statements, financial reports, and other information.

Most probably if you haven't purchased shares before May 1st, you will not get Dividend.

You can expect great future for MRKL since the dividend amount is almost equal to its Market cap. I haven't heard of any company giving this kind of Dividend.
