Heyman: Mets, Rox Still Far Off In Tulo Negotiations; Yanks Have Checked In

December 22, 2014 10:20 AM

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – There’s hope, but don’t count on it.

According to CBSSports.com/WFAN baseball insider Jon Heyman, the Mets are still interested in trading for Rockies superstar shortstop Troy Tulowitzki.

But as has previously been reported, both clubs will have to overcome some hurdles and make some concessions if a deal is going to be made. According to Heyman, issues holding up the trade include which players the Mets would send to Colorado and how much of Tulowitzki’s $118 million contract the Rockies would absorb.

General manager Sandy Alderson isn’t the only one interested in landing the four-time All-Star.

Despite acquiring Didi Gregorius at the beginning of the month, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has checked in on Tulowitzki’s availability.

Heyman reports that Rockies GM Jeff Bridich might not part with Tulowitzki unless the offer is simply too good to turn down. Alderson would almost certainly have to part with prized pitching prospect Noah Syndergaard in a deal for Tulo, though Bridich might ask for starting pitcher Zack Wheeler in a package, as well.
