the sony hack is exactly the kind of scenario wave hoped to help protect enterprises from.

it is the projection of north korean sovereign interests across borders, past firewalls and into the servers and devices of us companies, causing huge damage.

what is shocking the first time can easily become a pattern. sony's vulnerability invites a similar response by any disgruntled potentate. as we now know, insecurity was designed in by the nsa.

the question is, will the powers that be in the us finally recognise that robust defence is necessary for commerce. without information property rights, the whole edifice that is built on top of the internet will come crashing down. this isn't about protecting the us government. it's about protecting property rights universally - the entire system upon which value depends.

there's a choice to be made between surveillance and robust user security. you can't choose both.

maybe a few more ceos will be receptive to wave's message now. sony may represent an inflection point in wave's story. the whole architecture of protection needs a rethink.
