Don't assume that everyone involved knows the true story. I have seen many smooth talkers bring large investors and investments into great stories with little chance of success.
Bringing in board members, advisors, consultants, etc. is even easier. Being smart, rich and honest doesn't mean you have perfect insight. In fact, those factors can easily work against you in assessing others.

While it's possible that everything is on the up and up and the insiders have been surprised that every one of their announcements has turned into a dud, but the evidence is against.

Particularly when huge insider ownership disappears with not a word. Just a filing footnote that no one owns 5%.

Competing is intense among humans, and within a group, selfish individuals always win. But in contests between groups, groups of altruists always beat groups of selfish individuals.
