Unlike a board of directors, which has formal legal authority over a company and a fiduciary duty to its shareholders, an advisory board won't make decisions for you and has no obligation to the owners or liability for the company's actions.
or,
Some people may also use the term “board of advisors” to refer generally to a group of professionals convened to offer advice and assistance with a project. Universities, for example, might have boards of advisors to guide them on sensitive issues, and such boards might also assist research teams and other groups. In this case, members of the board are chosen for their expertise and reputation in the field, to ensure that the project is carried out in a professional and ethical manner.
or,
The purpose of a Board of Advisors is to complement your company's senior management team with industry experts that care about the future of your company, yet are probably either too expensive or otherwise unavailable for you to hire.
The composition of an advisory board varies depending on the needs of each company, but it's pretty common to have someone with a very deep and relevant product background, someone with deep marketing experience, a very strong technologist, and often someone with deep domain experience (i.e. if it's a medical software company you may have a well-respected surgeon).
The key is to complement your senior management team. If, for example, you don't have an experienced CFO type on your executive team, it's a good idea to add this dimension to your advisory board too.
One reason advisory boards work so well is that your executives get access to experienced and proven leaders, but in a non-threatening way, there is no worry that these people are out for their job, or to make some quick cash. The motivation of the advisor is to make the team and the company successful.
So why did Joe abrams get compensated.
is joe abrams really advising, or one of his advisers advisers advising.
or is it just name only advising.
whereas, I would think if it was Joe Abrams advising really,
He probably would advise that the
website needs some serious updating.
need to start getting some tweets out to the 11 followers on twitter.
And to save some face on facebook which at last count had 40 likes start putting some content on there.
And to just really put it out there, and looking at past companies that Joe Abrams advised, really start some down to earth public relations........
so who really is advising VOIS.......
I am sure it isn't Joe Abrams
