Blessings on St. Netstock!

After a bit of copy and paste from the NASDAQ ETF list, which they said there were 1546 listed, I loaded all of the symbols into Netstock and, except for two, it eliminated all the dupes to come up with 1186.

The dupes were minor pricing issues:

First Trust ISE Chindia Index Fund FNI $ 30.58 11.93%
First Trust ISE Chindia Index Fund FNI $ 30.60 10.24%

and:

iShares Core U.S. Treasury Bond ETF GOVT $ 25.01 2.62%
iShares Core U.S. Treasury Bond ETF GOVT $ 25.09 2.49%
iShares Core U.S. Treasury Bond ETF GOVT $ 25.09 2.49%

Who knows why, but it provides a cautionary note when looking at a web delivered database. They may not have done it right.

In looking at them all I found a few interesting tidbits. Only about 10% equaled or exceeded the 52 week S&P 500 for return. Those priced over $100 did better, about 20%.

The lowest volatility - 52 week high to 52 week low - with the best rate of return - suitable for parking your cash - was SPFF, Global X SuperInc, with 4.48% from high to low, only 0.62% above its low and a 7.23% annual dividend.

Also interesting is that about 40 have fallen below their 52 week low and another 10 are at their 52 week low. I noticed this in a position I inherited in an IRA, SVVC, as well. Lots of down positions today by significant amounts, $0.86 on a $19.41 position in one case and $0.92 in another.

Of the listed ETFs, almost 45% were in negative territory for the year, ranging from -0.03% to -84.32%. There are a fair number that are oil/natural gas/coal/energy ETFs in the list along with Russia, Brazil, China and Nigeria. Minerals, gold, silver, and other precious metals were well represented. Then there were a few oddballs like these two:

Direxion Daily Gold Miners Bear 3X Shares DUST $ 24.72 -52.93%
Direxion Daily Gold Miners Bull 3X Shares NUGT $ 12.22 -51.90%

which shows how iffy 3x leveraged funds can be.

Anyway, progress is being made in closing positions that my mother had where she was trading income for stock price loss, and I'm managing to do it with minimal losses, even some trivial gains! Haven't totaled it up exactly, but less than $100 in losses I'd guess.

Best,

Allen
