IMO the biggest problem is the doctors treating CVD are ill informed on the progress and science in their field.

Case in point, Last night I went to a dinner at "Shula's sponsored by Amarin. The speaker was a lipidologist. Who gave a slide show. He no doubt was being compted by Amarin. His knowledge of the subject matter, methods and physiology of trig lowering was embarrassing.

Among his misconceptions...

He recommended V for very high trigs, but recommended Fibrates for values under 500, even though he knew fibrates raise LDL-C.

He felt that LDL-C was a better CVD predictor than either LDL-P or non-HDL-C, evn though the Framingham study says otherwise.

he was unaware that labeling cautions using fibrates with statins.

he claimed the JELIS trial involved only secondary intervention..The JELIS was roughly 14,500 primary, and 3,500 secondary patients.

he did not know that trigs were fairly low in ACCORD, AIM HIGH and THRIVE..

He argued the LDL-C levels in JUPITER were high and that CRP was useless.

And this guy runs a lididology institute...

The greatest problem facing Amarin is physician ignorance..
