Albert Pujols hit a game winning single in the ninth scoring David Eckstein giving the Cardinals a 4-3 win over the Pirates. Mark Mulder pitched well going 7.2 innings allowing 2 runs on 5 hits but he did not get the win. Pirates 1B Jose Hernandez hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth off Jason Isringhausen that tied the game. SS David Eckstein had a good day going 2 for 4 with 3 runs scored and 3B Scott Spiezio went 2 for 4 with a RBI.

notes: The Hernandez homer denied Mulder his 100th career victory. The Pirates have now loss seven in a row.
