If it was a short covering that volume all at once... it would have caused an increase in PPS and would also have listed as a buy rather than a sell, no? While shorts may be covering, I do not believe the volume spike to be a massive cover... it would chart differently. IMHO same sentiment similar bullish signal, but a different chart. I like to think that shorts are still holding their bag and hoping the reversal is short lived. Better for longs if most shorts are still to cover. Once through .666 they will get nervous and start covering which would help to launch us past the key level = .77 I suspect most large short positions will be confident until we are through .666
