3 UK launches its Nokia supplied WCDMA network in northern UK
Jun 05, 2003 (NORDIC BUSINESS REPORT via COMTEX) -- Finnish telecomms solutions provider Nokia said today (5 June) that the United Kingdom telecomms operator 3 UK had launched its WCDMA network in northern England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The network was supplied by Nokia under a 2001 agreement, according to the company.
Nokia said that it had provided a complete 3G (third generation) system, including a nationwide core network and the radio-access network for the northern half of 3's network.
3 is owned by the international holding company Hutchison Whampoa Group. The global brand name for Hutchison Whampoa's 3G services is 3.
