Corp_Buyer, your post isn't in touch with reality. First of all, in corporate America, executives get more options than employees further down the totem pole. Always have, always will. It's the reward they get for their position in the company. Second, the example of the new controller getting 17,500 options as being ludicrous is comparing apples to oranges. These days, it is standard practice to receive a large lump sum of options when joining a company. The employees who received options for their inventions have already been hired. I'd be willing to bet they received a nice pile of options when they joined the company. Finally, how on earth do you know that other "excellent controller candidates" would have taken the job with no options? Do you personally know the controller that took the job and can compare him with other known candidates? Puh-lease!

Sorry, but this shareholder doesn't buy into this garbage!
