Setting aside the obligatory statement of optimism in countdown's post, this couldn't be a more depressing observation:

"There is stuff going on beyond Wave's control in Getting Wave's Drive Trust Manager certified. The SED's have to be certified and meet the protection profiles of the NIAP and the nations involved including the UK CESG. The SED has to meet the "Encryption Engine" PP.

Wave's Software has to meet it's own Protection Profile being developed called Authorization Acquisition (AA) PP."

Let's just call it the certification mouse-wheel. Wave's been running around that thing for more than a decade and the next set of certifications was always the prize.

For myself, I have come to the conclusion that new standards are going to keep getting written. The longer the frontier of progress, the more new standards will be needed there. The trick is to find commercial uses for the old ones.
