I made an estimate of the cost of 1 pound of LQMT a few years ago:

http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/read_msg.aspx?message_id=75185530

If we use $45.00 per pound for starters, and Materion's present capacity being 200,000 pounds per year, then, at capacity, Materion would generate total revenues on liquidmetal of USD9 million per year. 200,000 pounds is 907,184 ingots per year (100 grams per ingot). This would be the equivalent of the feedstock necessary to make 1,814,369 samples given away at the open house.

Since Hipple said they are shipping low million dollars per year now, (2012-2013), then I will take him at his word. At the very least he meant $1 million, which would mean about 22,222 pounds or
(1 Pound = 453.59237 Grams) 10,079,830 grams per year or 100,798 ingots per year (100 grams per ingot).

Now, of the part made for the vendors, MSRs and shareholders, a 60 gram ingot was used. Subtracting the 20% loss (sprue and other waste), that means the part at the show weighs approx 48 grams.

So, a regular ingot based upon costing above would be about $10 per ingot. By deduction, then, the part made at the show would have cost (60 grams/100grams) x 0.80 x 10 = $4.80 per piece made.

So much for trivia calculations.

Anyone is welcome to come up with a better idea.

PS The real point, however, was to show that 100,000 ingots per year would be very small production, and at best this production would generate less than 160,000 pieces of the sample handed out at the show.

Sure doesn't sound like much volume to me if low millions means $1 million of raw ingots.

Again, I may be wrong on my calculations.

What I am sure of, though, is that the feedstock ingot size at the show was 60 grams, according to Jelbert.

Tell me why I should be so excited at Materion's capacity of production, so far?

Sure, this is a great start, but what is the real endpoint?

How big did Tom Steipp say this market was? And how do we get there?

I am really confused. Sorry. Someone please enlighten me. How about DarkKnight, for starters, thanks!
